It was in 1929 when Santa Monica College was founded as a community college. Santa Monica currently occupies 35 heactares (14acres) with 30,000 enrolles each year scattered in more than 90 fields of studies. With almost 9 decades of Santa Monica’s existence as an institution, some of the classrooms including building needs to demolished subject for reconstruction. This process however is not easy because some of the buildings included in the demolition are situated near residential areas.
Santa Monica College Board of Directors decided to review further the technical specification of the proposed demolition to ensure that the it will not create extreme noise and disruption in the area. Most of all, the demolition must adhere to environmental requirements as there will be huge concrete structure to be demolished that will generate a large amount of air cargo effluent that will cause health problems for people within the vicinity. Mature trees in the area are also present which adds to factors to be considered in the demolition because these trees are planted in the lawn of the school buildings.
Santa Monica College is a two-year public community college located in Santa Monica, California considered to be the largest international student population of any community college in the US, with approximately 3,000 students from more than 100 countries including Japan and Sweden.
