Just the thought of this five letter word storm brings terror. Every living creature in this earth has somehow
experienced a storm. Before a place is hit by a storm it is usually forecasted meaning everybody is informed through the television or over the radio.
The forecast serves as a sounding alarm to people. Upon learning that a storm is coming, everybody prepares. If you are nearby the sea then you are most likely to evacuate to a safer place. But if you are in a safe place, then probably what you will prepare are the basics. Basic necessities like food, emergency lights, batteries, medicines etc.
These are what you are going to do when told that there is a coming storm. When we are foretold that there is an impending danger like storms then we have no option but to prepare and get ready. The storm I am talking about is an atmospheric disturbance manifested in strong winds accompanied by rain, snow, or other precipitation and often by thunder and lightning.
But how about the strong winds brought about by the storms of life? This kind of storm can be more devastating than the atmospheric storm. For this can tear one’s soul apart. Better is the storm brought about by some atmospheric disturbance because they can be forecasted but not the storm of this life.
Oftentimes we are caught in the middle of the storms of life without us knowing. The beating of the literal storm is sometimes easier to bear than these storms of life. If we are weak then we are usually left torn in pieces. The literal storm will just beat us for a few hours. These storms of life can stay with us, tormenting us for days or even years.
After the storm, anybody can say that there is a Creator who created these storms, because after the storm the sun shines again. But in our daily life, when the storm comes, it isn’t that easy to believe. Being beaten by the storm or just merely in the midst of a storm can wreck our soul making it even harder to believe that there is help available.
And it is during this time, during our low moments that what we can only do is to hope. Hoping for the best to come? No, just hopeful that somehow we can overcome and eventually get over it. Because sooner or later, whether we like it or not there will be an end to these troubles.
Here is a song sung by my favourite songwriter Matt Redman, ”You never let go”.
