After years of agony following his lost to American Earl “The Pearl” Strickland in Cardiff Whales in 2002, Francisco “Django” Bustamante finally won the highly coveted title of World Pool Champion 2010 in Doha, Qatar. A tarlqueno native, Django is somewhat inspired the whole weeklong competition where he was unstoppable and unfazed no matter who the person sitting in the other side of the cue table. Django Bustamante once again proved that he’s also worth the title “The Legend” in the world of pool.
2010 World Pool Champioship is actually considered to be the year of the Filipinos as there are seven of them entered the last 16, two of which fought in the semi-finals, Django Bustamante and the dangerous lefty Antonio “Nikoy” Lining won by Django 11-5. Django Bustamante has added another one of his collection of titles but this one is the sweetest of them all because it happened at the time where a townmate of him has just seated as President of the Philippines – Noynoy Aquino.
At opening rack, Francisco Bustamante is poised to be the champion as he showed early on his superb skill in billiards with his awesome break, a unique attribute that Django making him the marked man in every international competition of billiards. Django defeated the “Little Monster” Kuo Po Cheng of Chinese Taipei 13-7 redeeming himself finally from his heart breaking lost in 2002. It wasn’t a walk-in-the-park for Django though as there are still anxious moments in the game but his experience matters most and captured the crown with sweetness.
