noynoy_aquino_proclamationPresident-elect Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Cojuangco Aquino and Vice-President-elect Jejomar “Jojo” C. Binay will take their oath of office on June 30, 2010 at the Luneta Rizal Park. Traditionally, it’s the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court who administers the oath taking of the new president and vice-president but for some personal reasons, President-elect Noynoy Aquino opted to choose Associate Justice Conchita Carpio-Morales to do it.

Aquino believes that the now Chief Justice of the highest court in the land Renato Corona should not be appointed in the first place because it’s considered to be a midnight appointment by the outgoing president – unpopular Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. But it happened, outgoing President Gloria Arroyo appointed Renato Corona and took oath of office as new Chief Justice replacing Justice Renato Puno on the eve of May 17, 2010 away from the eyes of the media, including reporters who have been covering Malacañang for years including from government-run National Broadcasting Network Channel 4.

Heads of States will attend the Oath of office

luneta rizal park luneta grandstandThe Aquino – Binay oath taking ceremony will happen on the very day where Gloria Arroyo and Noli de Castro step down as president and vice-president respectively. It is expected that the oath taking ceremony will be attended by Heads of States if not by Ambassadors representing their respective nations.

Luneta Rizal Park particularly the grandstand is a home for big rally celebrations, boxing events, free concerts, etc. which can accommodate around 500,000 thousand to 1 Million in a single meeting. Luneta Rizal Park is a 58 hectares lot situated at the heart of Manila. It’s one of the biggest landmark in the country and a tourist destination where the monument of Dr. Jose Rizal, the National Hero, stands in the middle. Surrounding Luneta are hotels and universities, and now the newest attraction in the city – Ocean Park.

The inauguration rites of President-elect Noynoy Aquino and Vice-President-elect Jojo Binay is now the most anticipated event that will take place in the country. It will be the day where hope for the hopeless Filipinos shall begin again.

Street Party at Night

After the oath taking ceremony in Luneta Rizal Park during the day of June 30, a street part at night shall follow at the Quezon City Memorial Circle, Quezon City, Philippines in celebration for the newly installed government of Aquino-Binay. There had been numerous artists who volunteered to be part of the night long street party where Noynoy Aquino as president shall be given the chance to say ‘Thank you!’ for all the support accorded to him by around 15 million Filipinos around the globe.

Filipinos all over the world are hopeful

Carried the message of corrupt-free government, Aquino won the election by landslide and will take the oath of office as president of the Philippines for six years on June 30, 2010. Once seated in Malacanang palace, Aquino promised to pursue a case against corruption tainted outgoing president Gloria Arroyo, who many believe, the worst president the Philippines has ever had. Arroyo however strongly refuted the allegations saying that all issues thrown at her are just part of the dirty politics in the country. Currently, their is a TV advertisement running at primetime shows mentioning her accomplishments for nine years as president. The ad is saying that the infrastructures built during her term outnumbered the infrastructures built by the last three presidents combined.

Filipinos are hopeful that after the oath taking ceremony and/or inauguration day of the Aquino-Binay government, the two newly installed president and vice-president respectively shall start to work and make their promises come to reality by issuing executive orders. Those who voted them – around 15 million for Aquino, 13 million for Binay – are expectant that within 100 days in office, there must have been significant changes happening in the entire country.

Instilling change to the willing

It would be easy for Aquino to instill change in the entire Philippine archipelago if he will model it, and if only majority of the Filipinos are willing for the change they are asking. Sad reality is, Filipinos seem to be good in shouting for change but are not willing to be part of the change. Classic example would be the waste management that has been put into law for decade but blatantly ignored by both public officials and the people themselves. How much more if it is changing the country as a whole?

Aquino must also be a model of the youth by quitting the bice of smoking. He has all the rights to say excuses but that alone would prove if he has the political will to change the country by letting go of his bad habit of smoking.

‘No’ to favoring those who helped them win

aquino campaign rally promisesAquino and Binay should begin healing the wounds brought about by the May 10, 2010 election mudslinging politcal exercise. They must extend their hands to different sectors of the society especially those who did not support them. They must unite the Filipinos like how they are united when natural calamities struck the country regardless of political affiliation.

It would also be a good sign of sincerity for Aquino and Binay if they will appoint some of the political leaders who opposed them during campaign provided they are qualified and not only to appease them like what Gloria Arroyo did during her term trying to appoint a beautician of her to one of the juicy position. Fortunately, the beautician said ‘No’. Conventional wisdom would dictate that Aquino must say ‘No’ to those who are not his partymates, but that will not do anything good to him as president of the land. Abraham Lincoln, the greatest president of America, proved that appointing individuals outside of his party will do good for the country as a whole. And that’s precisely what sincerity means.

Short Oath Taking Ceremony

Preparation for the oath of office is not easy and it will take weeks if not months. But the actual oath taking will last for 30 seconds to 1 minute only. It will be followed by a 30 to 45 minutes presidential speech which will be televised and broadcasted nationwide through TV networks and Radio stations. Internet streaming video online will also be available so that Filipinos will have chance to hear and see the inauguration of the new president and vice-president.
