Seven Spiritual Things God’s People Do
Many individuals profess to be God’s people. It’s hard nowadays to detect who really God’s people are because most of us go to church every Sunday; knew how to kneel-down; knew much about the dogmatic teachings of the bible, etc. just to mention a few. But the question remains unanswered – who really are God’s people? One of the many marks of God’s people is that, they are peaceful people because their God is the God of peace and the source of peace.
Let’s take a look about the 7 Seven Spiritual things that God’s people do:
1. God’s people pray and ask to be prayed for
God’s people pray to confess and seek forgiveness. Confessing and being forgive bring about inner peace as God’s people. If somebody is sinning, their is an invisible burden in him. No matter how hard he tries to hide it, their is always an effect in his life. And there are two ways to do to remove that burden in him: First, to be perfect so that you don’t sin and therefore you don’t have to be guilty. Second, since we are not and cannot be perfect, God’s graciousness made another way for us to have peace – and that is through forgiveness from God.
“Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, I will confess my transgressions to the Lord, and you forgave the guilt of my sin.” Psalms 32:5
God’s people pray to thank God. When you thank God for blessings, you begin to realize that you’re a blessed person and that gives you inner peace. Try to be ungrateful by not praying, you will see yourself as if you are the most miserable person who lives. So let’s try to develop the habit of thanking God and you will begin to realize that you are actually blessed.
God’s people pray to praise God. Praying is not just asking God to bless you but to praise Him as well. When we praise Him, our attitude changed because He will begin to manifest himself to us, and that contentment and peace start to flow in us.
God’s people pray to place in God’s hands one’s needs and also those of others. The best help that we could render to people is intercede and pray for them. We need to understand that no matter how hard we try, we cannot give all they need in this life. In as much as we want to help and want to be there all the time, we cannot.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
God’s people also ask to be prayed for. Why? Because the best gift that we can receive from people is prayer. So instead of looking only for people capable of giving you something tangible, look for people who can pray for you.
“Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for Him.” Acts 2:5
So the very question that you might ask yourself is if someone is praying for you?
Prayerful people achieve much and those who get prayed for, achieve so much more.
2. God’s people worship in spirit and in truth
God’s people do not only attend a program or a worship service; they really worship. And being able to worship is when we forget ourselves, when we forget everything else and just focus on God.
You are just wasting your time attending worship service if you are not able to connect to the source of power – God – through worship. So don’t allow yourself to be a victim of the religious kind of worship abounds in many churches today, attending but not worshiping the King of kings.
“When he came out, he could not speak to them. They realized he had seen a vision in the temple, for he kept making signs to them but remained unable to speak.” Luke 1:22
“I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision.” Acts 11:5
When we get out of the usual physical environment and enter the spiritual world, we will receive unimaginable spiritual blessings that the world can’t give.
Just like Moses, there is radiance in the face of God’s people when they were able to worship the Lord.
3. God’s people immerse their hearts in God’s word
“Great peace have they who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble.” Psalm 119:165
It’s a big mistake when God’s people think that they have gained spiritual experience when they study the word of God by way of scrutinizing every word, study the Hebrew equivalent of the verse, understand what it means to the point of becoming so philosophical, intellectual, and very academic. Human knowledge is an important springboard to enter the spiritual world, but it is not the end.
“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” 2 Corinthians 3:17
It is a sad reality that churches today become an institutions of Do’s and Don’t's where pastors and workers act like police officers trying to enforce the law of God. If the Spirit of the Lord is in the church, there must be sense freedom. That is, pastors or preachers preach or teach and present the word of God but obedience is a personal thing. Obedience to the word that is heard is between the listener and God.
The church must never function as a police department or justice department but as hospital and everybody is a patient, and everybody is a caregiver to one another.
In the fellowship and in the church, it is not healthy that people hid their sorrows and mistakes to the point that we cannot help them. We must create an atmosphere where people may be free to admit that they are not perfect so that we can help one another.
Church must have an atmosphere of freedom to do anything you like but freedom to be what you are and to seek help so that you can be the better version of yourself. Acceptance is very important in the Christian community.
4. God’s people seek and find God everywhere
“Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; If I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.” Psalms 139:7-10
If we know that God is in the darkness, do we have peace to go there? Yes. If we know that God is in the mountains, are we afraid to go there? No. If we know that God is everywhere, and if we seek him we find him, then we have peace because he said “Those who seek me will find me.”
5. God’s people temper their body
God’s people must call their body a slave. You must say to your body “Hey, wake-up! It’s time to worship the Lord.”
“I beat my body and make it my slave.” I Corinthians 9:27
God’s people temper not only their body, but also very especially, worldliness.
“For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age.” Titus 2:11-12
God does not control us. Neither Satan can control us. We have a will, given to us by God, as humans, to control ourselves.
One of the first skills that a godly person must learn is to say “no” when you must. And don’t feel guilty by saying it or become apologetic. If it’s a no, it’s a no.
“Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul.” 1 Peter 2:11
We are in the world but we are not for the world. For our citizenship is not in the world, but in the Kingdom of the living God. Therefore, we must act, speak, think like ambassadors from heaven.
6. God’s people forgive
Another important attribute of God’s people is they know how and when to forgive. Because if you don’t know how to forgive, you do not have inner peace. As a result, your life will be miserable because somehow or somewhere in your life, you will also need forgiveness from others. If that happens, you will realize the truthfulness of God’s word that when you forgive, you will also be forgiven.
“Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.” Matthew 6:12
You also have to learn to forgive yourself. Whatever sins you’ve committed as long as you already asked forgiveness of the Lord, you should forget the past and move on.
We cannot unscramble a scrambled egg. Meaning, past is past. Therefore, forget, turn from it and face your tomorrow together with the Lord.
7. God’s people fill their lives with good deeds
God’s people fill their lives in doing good. They can swim more rivers, and succeed in their respective endeavors, but more importantly they know how to help the needy and helpless, give strength the to the weak, give hope to the hopeless.
God’s people are channels of God’s grace and love. They serve as God’s extension of His hands to uplift people out of misery.
If you fill your heart with good deeds, how can band thoughts bother you?
Conclusion
Let’s all be instruments of our God to demonstrate His goodness in the world. It must be our goal to be God’s channel of blessings by doing the seven things God’s people must do through the help of the Holy Spirit because first, we can not do it alone. God’s calling to us can’t be fulfilled in its fullness without Him in our side.
