“Thank you for staying with us Tiffany!” says CEO Robert Logann of Diversity International. Tiffany has been with Mr. Logann for five years, and there is no sign of her to leave yet. She received one day off to rest as a secretary. Actually, Tiffany should go somewhere else to refresh herself. In fact, secretaries have all the reasons to celebrate this week in relation to the Administrative Professionals Day.
Forget about the dangers of losing your work next month, for this week (April 18-24), is the Administrative Professionals Day in the USA. This means, we are already in the middle of this weeklong festivities in the workplace. The theme for this year, 2010, is “Power of Commitment.” It is a common theme, but it’s worth reviewing it to assess the level of commitment we have on the things we do.
The most common act of celebrating , is that CEOs and Presidents in the corporate world give their secretaries and assistants flowers, candies, and ofcourse the most acceptable of them all – extra dayoffs.
With the economic downturn of USA until today, it is not practical for some companies to do programs that involve expenses. Depending on the status of a company, they can actually do programs that includes parlor games where rank in file employees will be given prizes.
But IAAP (The International Association of Administrative Professionals) recommend that bosses should seriously consider use the day to further employees’ education, providing training opportunities and seminars, which I think, it’s the best move a company should do.
