Bro Eddie C. Villanueva: The Kid Warrior
By Atty. Lyndon Cana

Bangon Pilipinas just went through its second foray into national politics. At first glance, everything seemed to have ended in disaster. Its standard bearer early on was hostaged to a measly two to three percent survey rating, and the results of the automated quick polls seemingly just confirmed it. The “religious” or spiritual approach to political participation was put on trial, and seemingly the verdict is that faith and politics don’t mix, and they will not work. Worst, the score they gave Bangon’s standard bearer is only half the votes he got the first time around. Appearing to have suffered a direct hit also is the prophetic movement that partly, if not largely, fueled the Bangon fight.

WHERE ARE THE VOTES OF BRO. EDDIE? Is the Election Result really credible?

This question has been lingering in my mind when I saw in TV the total votes of Bro. Eddie. I don’t believe that Christian votes is totaled at one million plus only. Jesus Is Lord Church alone will not be less than 2 Million votes.

“Therefore my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the LORD, because you know that your labor in the LORD is not in vain.” (1 Corinthians 15:58).

A paraphrased prayer from Daniel 3: 16-18: God, we do not need to defend ourselves in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it and You will rescue us. But even if You do not, we want the Filipinos to know that we remain steadfast in our service to God and country.

We have given joy to the heart of God as we supported His cause for the Philippines. Now, let the joy of the LORD be our strength!

Thank you once again!

God bless you all marvellously!

GOD bless the Philippines!

Latest News on Bro. Eddie Villanueva’s and Bangon Pilipinas Campaign for 2010 National Elections as of May 9, 2010 @ 10pm Manila Asia Pacific Timezone

Eddie Villanueva.

In August last year, I joined the pool of volunteers of Bangon Pilipinas. I brought with me a relatively rich experience in policy research and writing. The tasked assigned to me was to give research inputs for his speeches. But as the campaign season drew near, I got a new assignment. I joined him in the series of presidential fora to make sure that policy documents, research materials and other necessary inputs would be adequately prepared for him and easily available anytime he needs them.

That was the beginning of car and plane rides with him…

Bro Eddie on Filing of Petition
Latest News on Bro. Eddie Villanueva’s and Bangon Pilipinas Campaign for 2010 National Elections as of May 6, 2010 @ 10pm Manila Asia Pacific Timezone

The dubious discrepancies that resulted from the testings of the PCOS machines – if not properly addressed – would result in yet another lasting scar in our electoral process.

Among others, we received reports that in many areas in Metro Manila and other provinces, test results yielded only one presidential candidate: that of the administration.

What was equally alarming was that the number of voters and the number of votes did not match. This easily puts to mind our eternal problem on dagdag-bawas.

After studying this development thoroughly with its legal panel, Bangon Pilipinas files a petition today for a 15 days postponement of the elections so that the Commission on Elections would have enough time to continue with the testings and correct all irregularities in the machines’ compact flash cards. We hold the Comelec responsible to make the testings and corrections the most transparent as possible so the public would not have reasons to doubt these corrective measures.

Bro. Eddie C. Villanueva: Bangon Pilipinas on “red alert” against cheating
Latest News on Bro. Eddie Villanueva’s and Bangon Pilipinas Campaign for 2010 National Elections as of May 4, 2010 @ 10pm Manila Asia Pacific Timezone

2010 election cheating alertWith less than a week to go before the elections and in the midst of reports of PCOS machines tallying test ballots incorrectly in Makati and Pateros, Bangon Pilipinas Party (BPP) standard bearer Bro. Eddie Villanueva said supporters of his party would be switching to a “red alert” posture, or a position of extreme vigilance and readiness, for the coming May 10 elections.

He explained that the red alert posture means BPP supporters would be quick and decisive in responding to any sign of deception, chicanery and dishonesty in the conduct of the election.

He also called on other patriotic Filipino to be vigilant as well.

“We must never, never forget the ‘Hello Garci’ scandal that was validated by the infamous ‘I am sorry’ of no less than the
President herself. We must never forget that these are the very same people and network of operators who are still very much in power. That the people were cheated the first time is a tragedy and shame. To be cheated a second time by the same administration is unforgivable,” Villanueva said.

“The Constitution is the embodiment of our aspirations as a people. And the ultimate expression of the people’s will is the ballot. Our patriotic soldiers and policemen will be the front-liners in the defense of our votes. Let no harm come to them. I am an OFW who has had the privilege of looking at the campaigns from a distance, reading all the political parties’ and presidential candidates’ platforms, visiting their respective websites and facebook fan pages, listening to their radio interviews, and watching the news despite the obvious partiality of some of the biggest TV networks and journalists.

Come May 10, I shall cast my vote for Bro. Eddie Villanueva and Perfecto Yasay for President and Vice President. I will soon fly back home—yes, home, my dear Pilipinas—to vote for the candidate I can identify with; and to follow my mind, my heart, and my conscience in harmony.

He raised Villanueva’s hands before key officers of the MNLF during the MNLF Founding Anniversary held last March 18 in Ipil, Zamboanga. If true, this is yet another election laws violation involving the military, said Cana.

While early voting for specific government officers and employees, including the military, is provided for by Republic Act 7166 and Executive Order 157, early voting will not start until April 28. The Commission on Elections has set April 28 to 30 as the dates for local absentee voting.

Apart from violating the Comelec rule on the dates of voting, Bangon Pilipinas has also received reports that it is not the soldiers who are actually casting their votes in military camps.

Araw ng Kagitingan Statement – Pagpupugay sa mga Bayani ng Demokrasya.
Latest News on Bro. Eddie Villanueva’s and Bangon Pilipinas Campaign for 2010 National Elections as of April 9, 2010 @ 8am Manila Asia Pacific Timezone

Why Eddie Villanueva remains my choice for President?
Latest News on Bro. Eddie Villanueva’s and Bangon Pilipinas Campaign for 2010 National Elections as of April 5, 2010 @ 3pm Mindanao Asia Pacific Timezone

In 2004, I helped Bro. Eddie Villanueva in his presidential bid, and actually joined him in his campaign stumps in cielito habitovarious parts of the country. I am helping him once again in his renewed bid in 2010 because as a Filipino who values our democracy and believes in our country’s latent greatness, I see in Bro. Eddie the only hope for leadership that would bring about true and fundamental change in our society, in our politics and governance, and most importantly, in ourselves. This was my firm conviction in 2004; this remains my solemn conviction now.

Among the contend ers who have a fighting chance to win the presidency, I am convinced that he is the one who comes closest to having the purity of heart that Fr. Catalino Arevalo attributed to President Cory Aquino in his elegant eulogy delivered at her funeral Mass last year. I can say this because I am personally aware of the circumstances under which Eddie Villanueva decided to seek the Presidency in 2004, and again now for the coming May elections. Then and now, he had agonized over the decision and tried to come up with various reasons why he shouldn’t do it – especially as his own family had initially opposed, rather vehemently, the very idea of his running again. The experience he has been through is not strange to me, as my close relatives and friends who know more intimately of why I sought the Lakas presidential nomination in 1998 would understand. This is why I know in my heart that the man has no personal agenda in seeking to be the Servant Leader of this nation. And this to me is the unique aspect about this Presidential candidate that is among his greatest strengths. His only motivation is to heed what he believes to be a divine calling to be the instrument for fundamental change in our nation – a change that only an unimpeachably righteous leadership inspired by an abiding faith in God can provide.

Second Take for Bro. Eddie Villanueva
Latest News on Bro. Eddie Villanueva’s and Bangon Pilipinas Campaign for 2010 National Elections as of March 31, 2010 @ 10am Manila Asia Pacific Timezone

bro. eddie villanueva may pagasa paPolitical and legal doctrines state that government and religious institutions are to be kept apart and independent from each other. It is the secularity of the government and the freedom of the Church to its religious exercises that makes them both autonomous.
In Philippine politics however, there’s a thin line dividing the State and the Church.

Jesus is Lord founder Brother Eddie Villanueva aims to defy the doctrine once again as he treads on the presidential campaign trail with the catchphrase “Diyos at Bayan” – the core of his platform of government.

Bro. Eddie Villanueva is a well-known religious leader and for the second time, he is attempting to snatch the topmost seat in government. He ran and lost during the 2004 presidential elections. Now, he is running again as the standard bearer of Bangon Pilipinas, which primary goal is to promote righteousness and moral renewal in the government.

bro eddie villanueva campaign rallyBangon Pilipinas standard-bearer Bro. Eddie Villanueva called on Malacanang to recall the appointments of all officials in a recent spree of so-called midnight appointments.

Villanueva also stressed that the appointees could very well be illegal since they might have been made after the March 10 ban on appointments.

But even if the appointments were made before March 10, Villanueva said these were not ethically or morally acceptable.

“The legality of the appointments should be questioned. But more than that, Bangon Pilipinas does not believe it is acceptable and ethical, much less moral, for the President to make any appointments just before the March 10 ban,” Villanueva said.

He also said the Palace must be transparent and show the public the appointment papers of the appointees.

The recent appointments disclosed only last week were criticized as “midnight appointments.” It has not been revealed when the President signed the appointments.

After more than three hours during which STAR editorial staff grilled Bangon Pilipinas standard-bearer Eduardo Villanueva, someone who is assisting in the campaign of one of the top two presidential contenders said she might end up voting for “Brother Eddie.”

The atheist-turned-Christian evangelist garnered two million votes, according to the official tally, in his first stab at the presidency in 2004. I thought that was an impressive showing for a non-politician, but Villanueva indicated to us last Friday that the figure had been drastically trimmed by the same forces that gave us the “Hello, Garci” vote-rigging scandal.

Villanueva can count on a solid voting base in the Jesus is Lord movement, which he heads. Unlike other major religious groups or charismatic movements, the JIL has not been tainted by scandals involving corruption, estafa, or influence-peddling and arm-twisting of public officials.

So far I have not heard stories of the JIL using its voting clout to meddle in appointments and promotions in the police, the prosecution service, the judiciary and the rest of the bureaucracy. This is so unlike certain groups that purport to be religious in nature but behave no better than the mafia or the gangsters in the Arroyo administration.

Bro. Eddie Not Eager to Join Protests
Latest News on Bro. Eddie Villanueva’s and Bangon Pilipinas Campaign for 2010 National Elections as of March 27, 2010 @ 8pm Manila Asia Pacific Timezone

bro. eddie villanueva 3Unlike some religious leaders who have said that they might join a revolt in the event of failure of elections, Jesus Is Lord (JIL) founder Bro. Eddie Villa-nueva said he is not eager to join the bandwagon of protests.

Villanueva, presidential candidate of the Bangon Pilipinas Party (BPP), told editors of The STAR that he would rather exhaust all democratic and peaceful means instead of joining revolts.

Villanueva, a former student activist, has had his share of street demonstrations and was even arresyted twice during the martial law years.

These experiences and his conversion as a Born Again Christian allowed him to have a “balanced view of these delicate matters.”

Villanueva-Yasay: Undermine not SC institutional independence
Latest News on Bro. Eddie Villanueva’s and Bangon Pilipinas Campaign for 2010 National Elections as of March 23, 2010 @ 8pm Manila Asia Pacific Timezone

bangon pilipinas candidatesBangon Pilipinas standard-bearer Bro. Eddie Villanueva expressed serious apprehension over the Supreme Court’s decision allowing President Gloria Arroyo to name the next chief justice despite a clear and established Constitutional ban.

“The growing public unease over the SC’s decision on the matter has a basis. There are those who see this as an indication of a power play to undermine the institutional independence of the Supreme Court, particularly considering that all except one of the sitting justices are Arroyo appointees or her perceived allies,” Villanueva said adding that the timing of such appointment is not only against the clear provision of the law but also against propriety.

The 1987 Constitution expressly prohibits the president from making appointments in the judiciary two months before the general elections and 30 days before the expiration of the President’s term. The Supreme Court event supported this interpretation in previous decisions prior to the latest one. But the recent decision penned by Justice Lucas Bersamin held that appointment to the office of the chief justice is exempt from the provision.

“Our farmers will take pride to be on the center stage of development once Bangon Pilipinas Party takes over,” said Bro. Eddie Villanueva, presidential candidate of Bangon Pilipinas.

Since last year, Bangon Pilipinas has been going around the country to engage farmers and fishers in consultations on how to rejuvenate the agricultural sector. The results of such consultations are now incorporated in the platform of governance of the Party.

“We remain an agricultural economy, but our farmers are trapped in the misfortune of being in the sidelines when it comes to policy-making on agriculture. We see the urgent need to involve them in the process,” Villanueva said.

polytechnic university of the philippinesAn inconceivable tuition fee hike, at this time of extreme economic difficulty, is nothing but a death sentence for thousands of Filipino students.

These were the words of Bro. Eddie Villanueva, standard-bearer of Bangon Pilipinas Party, in response to the reported would-be 2,000% increase in the tuition fee of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP).

The biggest state university in the country, PUP announced last week through its president Dr. Dante Guevarra that the increase from P12 per unit to P200 will take effect next semester on all incoming freshmen.

“With due respect to the concerned university officials, the issue on hand truly requires a serious second look. Because it is the responsibility of the State to educate its people, any anti-student tuition hike amid worsening poverty diametrically opposes the very purpose of state universities,” said the Bangon Pilipinas Party presidential bet.

“Former Sec. Boncodin served the people with utmost diligence and competence. She was never involved in any kind of scandal. Yet she lived a simple life not wanting power or riches, a true public servant,” he said.

Villanueva added that the former Budget secretary exemplified the kind of public service Bangon Pilipinas strives to engender not as an exemption but as a rule in public service.

Boncodin passed away Monday due to cardiac arrest. She was 55.

“During her time in Malacanang and even up to her death, Sec. Boncodin and her family lived a simple life in a simple house. That is the kind of civil servants we must have, in contrast to the officials we now have. She exemplified a life so worthy of emulation by every public servant,” Villanueva added.

Pacman, not Political Ads – Bro. Eddie
Latest News on Bro. Eddie Villanueva’s and Bangon Pilipinas Campaign for 2010 National Elections as of March 13, 2010 @ 8PM Manila Asia Pacific Timezone

These were the words of Bro Eddie Villanueva on the much-anticipated scheduled fight of Filipino boxing icon, Manny Pacquio, against Ghanaian former IBF welterweight champion Joshua Clottey when the two face each other on Saturday, March 13, (Sunday, 8am Philippine time) at the Cowboy’s Coliseum in Arlington, Texas.

Villanueva’s wistful wish was a reaction to information he received that the two leading world boxers won’t be the only ones who’d get battered during the bout dubbed as The Event. Apparently, viewers would also have to contend with surging political ads of candidates that will be placed in the 12-round title fight.

“I was told that many candidates paid millions of pesos worth of airtime for their commercials to be aired in the Pacman-Clottey fight. Kasi nga naman sigurado ang viewership. Pero para sa mga kababayan natin na gusto lang naman sumuporta sa ating Pambansang Kamao, hindi makatarungan na pagtiisin silang panoorin ang mga patalastas ng mga pulitiko. They don’t deserve to get bombard with political ads that spoil the fun and souse the excitement out of the game,” Villanueva said.

Bangon Pilipinas standard-bearer Bro. Eddie Villanueva called on members of the military and police force to stay true to the Constitution and not to allow itself to be used by any politician in the May elections.

Villanueva made the call after fears were expressed about the appointment by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo of Lt. Gen. Delfin Bangit as the new Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff.

Bangit, a former chief of the Presidential Security Group (PSG) and the Intelligence Service of the AFP (ISAFP), is perceived to be very loyal to Mrs. Arroyo and critics said he could use the military to manipulate the outcome of the May elections as it was used in 2004.

    My suggestions:

Please properly identify (repeatedly in bold letters) the Bangon Pilipinas names of Presidential, Vice Presidential and senatorial candidates. They have to be identified repeatedly on social media and even on television (TFC and GMA) so that OFWs will be able to familiarize with their names preparatory to forthcoming elections in April to May 2010 (for Filipino overseas voters).

Win or loss, I’ll vote for a man of integrity. That’s what we call wise choice. If Noynoy wins, he can’t be a good president because his colleagues in LP are are traditional politicians. How can he rebuke the corrupt if he has utang na loob to them. Noynoy Aquino’s government is a government of the rich. Kawawa naman mga masang Pilipino.
